All 10 short films are available for viewing for the 10-day period. Shorts International will provide digital distribution services for the selection of 2009 films.

FESTIVAL DAY ONE SPOTLIGHT: HUG
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMovie?id=301220079&s=143441Khary Jones was born and raised in Camden, New Jersey. His film HUG (www.hugthemovie.com) was made as part of the MFA in Film Directing program at Columbia University, and clearly shows the filmmaker's understanding of the complex issues that come with bipolar sufferers and supporters. It took Jones fourteen drafts before he was ready to shoot, and what results is something with tremendous depth, insight and characterization. Having lost the third day of a four-day shoot to an ice storm, Jones overcame production obstacles with some extra help from the crew (and extra cups of hot chocolate). Jones is certainly someone to watch out for, as is the talented cast he worked with, making HUG a strong addition to the program, and one of the most powerful dramas this year.

Score one for the little guys. Back in August 2008, tech website Crunchgear.com posted a crazy news story; Aaron Sorkin was looking to make a movie about... wait for it... Facebook. Read the full article here. Well, guess what? A month later a young indie filmmaker by the name of David Lehre uploaded his twenty minute masterpiece titled, oddly enough, facebook: the movie.

I stumbled upon this music video for Levi Weaver's "You Are Home". The video was produced by Paper Beasts Rock. Even with it having been released early in the year, I here by declare it "Music Video of the Year 2008." Make sure to watch it in full frame HD.

Kids, sometimes you stumble upon things while roaming the Internet(s). It might a couple years old, but I just now discovered a real jem. Case in point, Nina Gordon's cover of NWA's "Straight Out Of Compton". Nina Gordon who, you ask. Nina was one the original co-founder's of the band Veruca Salt. She left the band in the late 90's and only within recent years started putting out solo albums. She been vocally showing everyone her softer side as well as doing some awesome covers. And if you wondering, yes she can still rock it.

This white boy was sent here to save us. This is a cover to "Hypnotize" by The Notorious B.I.G.
As a fan of the The Swell Season, I received an interesting bulletin via their MySpace page.

May 5, 2008 7:08 PMDownload a Swell Season gig NOW on playedlastnight.com
Would you like to re-live the experience of a Swell Season gig you have just recently attended to?
OR.....
You haven't been/will not be able to make it to any of the concerts this time around but would love to listen to a full live set performed by Glen and Mar?
Well, now you can just do that and more!
We are recording most of the shows on this tour and the lovely folks at www.playedlastnight.com will make them available for you all for downloading so you can listen to the gigs whenever and wherever you want to.
The cost of downloading a full gig is $9.95 USD. All the recordings are high quality. You can listen to previews of the tracks on their website for free.
Please read the description on the audio files provided by playedlastnight.com for each download!
As of now, playedlastnight.com features two artists, Iron & Wine and The Swell Season.
I'm a fan of live music. I also enjoy listening to multiply concerts from the same artist even if they're from different venues. Not every concert plays the same. The set list can change, one song's perfect performance may never be repeated, the energy from the crowds tend to vary. You don't want to see the number of different concerts I have for Bloc Party, Radiohead, and Sigur Rós.
I'll be keeping an eye on playedlastnight.com. Maybe I've already put it to use...

A couple months back I posted my love for Tegan and Sara. This past November, they started a Internet video tour diary show called "Trailer Talk". Watch and enjoy.

Canadian Quin twins, Tegan and Sara, have released their newest music video "Back In Your Head". It is also the first single off their most excellent new album The Con. This album hasn't left my car from the day I bought it. This might be the first CD I wear out. If you haven't yet purchased it, first slap yourself upside your head, next run out and get it. I highly recommend the CD/DVD special edition. The DVD features a 90 minute behind the scenes making of "The Con: The Movie" filmed (in HD) while they worked on the album. If you're a die hard fan, this is not to be missed.
Internet Freebies:
- Tegan and Sara in Concert - free concert from August 3, 2007 (streaming)
- The Interface with Tegan and Sara - free audio and video podcast (download)
- Tegan and Sara at Amoeba Music - free video, from July 24th, 2007 (streaming)
- Scenes from "The Con: The Movie" DVD
Damn, I practically forgot about this one. Go watch Lollapalooza now!
